Chapter 15

“Yo Yo Yo. This is Nesha Re and I’m in the studio with Detroit’s very own Southwest Rah!” The radio host announced, followed by a round of applause prompted by the switchboard.

“What up doe, Re?” Rahlo spoke into the mic.

“You,” she flirted. “You are what’s up. I’m digging this look on you.” Nesha Re checked out his outfit. The brunt orange puffy vest and wheat Timbs screamed New York, but the fitted D hat and wood-frame buffs said Detroit. “It’s giving fall in the city.”

“You better stop looking at me like that, you know I been feeling you for a while.”

“Rah, stop.” She blushed. “But speaking of your relationship status-”

“Oh, that’s what we’re talking about?” He chuckled, causing the dimple to sink into his cheek.

“Now we are. The girls wanna know if you’re single.”

“I am,” he admitted. “There is a shorty that caught my eye, but right now, my focus is music.”

“I dig that,” she nodded. “Then tell us what’s your type.”

“Honestly, I like thick girls.”

“Thick? Like the fake booties, big breasts, and small waist?” She twisted her lips.

“Nothing against my ladies that went under the knife, but I like my women a little more juicy, if you will. I want the legs, thighs, and fupa to match all that ass.” Rahlo licked his lips. “I want the real deal.”

“Say that shit then!” Nesha Re clapped her hands. “See, you got me cursing on air.”

“I’m just being honest. I want my woman black and homegrown.”

“Whew.” She fanned herself. “Ladies, if you are listening, Rah just said he’s a part of the BBW club. Jump in his inbox and may the best woman win.”

“You silly,” he chortled, taking a sip of water. Nesha Re melted at the way his lips wrapped around the bottle.

“So this upcoming album…give me some tea.” She fanned herself.

“It’s almost done. Shoutout to my manager Terri and all the producers that’s been holding me down.”

“Now look, you already established a fanbase before signing with Eastwood Entertainment. Has anything changed?”

“My fanbase is growing.” He leaned forward and rubbed his chin. “My day ones know I’m bringing the heat, and everyone is just catching on.”

“People compare you to J. Cole, Kendrick, and sometimes Da Baby. How do you feel about that?”

“I love the big homies and respect what I’ve learned from studying their music, but I’m in my own lane.”

“Meaning?”

“Comparing myself to others only increases the pressure on my shoulders. From where I’m standing, there’s only one me, just like there’s only one of them. Personally, I think that’s why it's always so much competition amongst artists. We all bring something different to the table, there’s no need to compete. It’s enough for everybody.”

“That was well said.” Nesha Re nodded her head. “I hope yall new artists are listening. This man is wise beyond his years. The late great Hussle said it best. There is no traffic in your own lane.”

“Shout out to Nipsey,” Rahlo agreed.

“So you know I have to be nosey.” She gave him a knowing look.
